Recently, a discussion on the topic of Whitney Houston’s personal struggles and her relationship with Robin Crawford was raised on Facebook and in several verbal exchanges. As a response to this, I would like to add my thoughts to the conversation. It’s important to note that the information regarding Houston’s personal life is not new and has been a part of her public persona for years. The pressure to hide her true self due to homophobia contributed significantly to her personal struggles and ultimate demise. This issue is one that many in the LGBTQ+ community can relate to, and it’s unfortunate that society continues to force people to hide their authentic selves.
Robin Crawford, Houston’s friend and lover, was also deeply affected by this pressure to hide their relationship. With Houston’s passing, it’s impossible to rectify the time they lost together, and it’s a painful reality that Crawford has to grapple with. I believe that the recent purge of emotions and thoughts that Crawford has shared with the public is a therapeutic process that will help her in the healing journey. Protecting Nippy was once important, but now Crawford’s own survival and well-being are the top priority. Let her release her emotions, for nobody else can understand her pain.
